How to Use Our Clinics Step by Step

Whether you have tame cats ready or you want to trap free-roaming cats to bring in, please read this section thoroughly and carefully prior to making any reservations. Our documents guide you through trap preparation, trapping, housing the cats and preparing for the clinic. We’ll even help with what to do with the cats after the clinic.

Begin by reading the “Clinic Policies for Free Surgical Services” and “Using Public & Private Clinics.” To understand the reasons behind our policies, read “Why Did We Establish These Clinic Policies?” If you have any questions or concerns about our policies, you may find About the Cats.  This will give you a better understanding of our philosophy.

Note: Payment for any services provided by Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project must be by cash or by check.

Note to our clients that are 501(c)(3) organizations:  As of August 1, 2009, FCSNP began offering free spay/neuter surgeries and rabies vaccinations for feral and free-roaming cats (cats that will be eartipped) brought to the clinic by small 501(c)(3) organizations.  Please see the new policy.

If you are unfamiliar with trapping, please read “How To Trap”. Do not begin trapping until you have reservations.

Key Points About Trapping

  • Find out about pet/owned cats in the area: what color, what gender, and other identifying information. Only trap free-roaming cats.
  • Do not bring in pet/tame cats without trying to find an owner and obtaining permission. The cats should not be transported, sedated and checked for spay/neuter, if they are someone’s altered pet.
  • Check carefully for an ear tip; release immediately if identified.
  • If you trap a sickly cat and plan to treat it, please complete treatment before surgery to maximize the cat’s health.

To become familiar with your responsibilities once you trap cats, read through “Before You Arrive” and “The Day Of The Clinic.” Once you understand what is expected, you are ready to make reservations. Do not begin trapping until you have reservations.

If you have read, understand and agree with the information provided above, you are ready to make reservations.
